Glitter Polka Dot Candles

I love polka dots. I also love glitter. So it should come as no surprise that I love the combination of the two. I also like scented candles and am partial to the ones that smell like food. Baked goods, in particular. Last time we had a power outage and had to light a bunch of candles, my house smelled like a legit bakery! It was wonderful!

Unfortunately, most scented candles you pick up aren’t exactly spectacularly designed or anything. In fact, they’re usually just glass cylinders with a label or something. I recently got a couple of these from Target (Sugar Blossom and Red Velvet Cupcake, naturally). After peeling off the labels (which came off pretty easily!), I was planning on just covering it in glitter…

But then I found this!

Who knew that one of my favorite stenciling tools was also a perfect polka dot maker! These little pouncers are so handy! I obviously had to try this out immediately. Glitter polka dots seemed too good to be true. Just think of the possibilities! Christmas ornaments, Easter eggs, my mind is just bursting with ideas!!

Those of you not fond of glitter, I’m sorry to say it’s going to get much worse before it gets better around here. There is a set of Martha Stewart glitter being shipped to my house as we speak. I can’t even put my excitement into words.

Anyways! This was surprisingly quick! I had previously attempted glitter polka dots using contact paper and a hole punch, which didn’t work out to well. This took probably 10 minutes plus drying time.

You need:
A foam pouncer
Mod podge
Glitter
A plain glass jar candle

Pour out a little mod podge. Press pouncer into Mod podge to absorb. Press coated pouncer firmly onto candle. And then you just dump a little glitter onto the Mod podge circle. Make sure you move the candle around a bit to coat the whole circle. Tap the candle gently to shake off any excess. And continue in desired pattern!

Once done, just let it dry for a couple of hours and then wipe off the excess glitter around the polka dots and tap the candle around a bit to get rid of any excess glitter. I highly recommend doing the project on some craft paper. This makes it really easy to recycle all of the glitter that falls off in the process. You just fold the paper and dump excess glitter back into the jar for future use!

How adorable is my little candle? This would be a great way to dress up candles around the holidays!

Here it is all lit up! Smells pretty great too…

Makes a great little addition to my nightstand, no? I’m paranoid about ruining my painted furniture, so these coasters come in pretty handy.
