So, a few days back I was browsing Etsy for some ideas for our upcoming bathroom renovation and stumbled upon this charming little set of mason jars. For the past few months, I’d been using my tinted mason jars to hold my makeup brushes, and I have to say they’ve been working rather well. I’m thinking of a rustic/vintage look for the bathroom (think pale walls, chipped paint, ruffled shower curtain..I’ve been trying to construct a moodboard to share with you), so mason jars seemed perfect.
Plus I love (LOVE) the combination of burlap and white lace. These seemed easy enough to recreate. And I have an abundance of mason jars lying around the house. You know, in case inspiration strikes.
When I say ‘easy enough to recreate’, I mean this is probably the fastest and easiest mason jar project EVER. It hardly warrants a full tutorial.
Materials:
- Burlap
- Lace
- Twine
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
The only burlap I had on hand was the pale burlap I used for throw pillows and I didn’t think it contrasted enough with the white lace, so I painted it (using craft paint and fabric medium). Obviously, if you’re happy with your shade of burlap, you don’t need to do that.
Cut your burlap into strips large enough to go around the mason jar and wider than your ribbon. For the wide mouth pint jar, my strip was 10 x 2.
Use glue gun to attach burlap to jar. You don’t want to use a ton of glue, as bits of glue seeping through the burlap isn’t the best look.
You then glue the lace ribbon onto the burlap. As you can imagine, glue seeps through lace fairly easily as well. Therefore, I didn’t apply glue all the way around. It holds perfectly well if you just apply to the edge of the ribbon when you start and then add a little more to the end after going around your jar.
And now for the final step, cut a piece of twine and wrap it around the jar. Fasten with a bow (if desired).
You can go all kind of crazy here..wrapping the twine two, three times around the jar to give it a thicker band.
Sometimes I slightly glue my bow in place so that it doesn’t move around through use. And that’s about it!
See, I wasn’t lying about it being the fastest and easiest mason jar project ever.
And super charming! I can’t wait to use them in my new bathroom! They’re also a perfect centerpiece for a rustic chic wedding.
I even saw Jack admiring them, and let me tell you – he is quite selective when it comes to mason jars.
That is a great idea, and great look Lusine Jan! and of course Mr. Jack has to approve it! HAHAHA good job!
Thanks Sossy! As always, thank you for the support. He gets very nosy when he sees me taking pictures of things on the ground so he feels the need to investigate 🙂
